Powder metallurgy parts play a crucial role in motorcycle production as a type of basic component. As early as the early 1990s, motorcycles in China used dozens of powder metallurgy parts, which were widely applied in engines and frames. After long - term production and use, these parts proved to have stable performance and processes, making significant contributions to material - saving, energy - saving, and cost reduction in motorcycle production. Table 5-1 lists some examples of powder metallurgy parts used in domestically - produced motorcycles in the mid - 1990s.

In the mid - 1990s, 18 motorcycle manufacturers in China had established technical cooperation or joint ventures with Japanese manufacturers. Therefore, the powder metallurgy parts listed in Table 5 - 1 also reflect some of the parts used in Japanese motorcycle production at that time. These parts were of low and medium density and had relatively simple shapes.

In the 1990s, there were 9 motorcycle manufacturers in Taiwan, China, with a production of 1.5 million units in 1993. Domestic sales reached over 1.1 million units, and exports were around 0.4 million units. With a large motorcycle production and ownership, the application of powder metallurgy parts in motorcycles was highly valued in Taiwan. Table 5 - 2 lists some powder metallurgy parts used in motorcycles produced in Taiwan at that time.
